Our Work & Engagements.
How We Engage.
AfriMali Insight works as an execution and research partner on complex, high-stakes assignments in Africa’s natural resource sectors. Our engagements sit at the intersection of policy, research, and delivery. We are typically engaged where governance frameworks must be translated into operational reality — and where partners require depth, discretion, and accountability.
Rather than listing projects as transactions, we present our work as strategic engagements that reflect the level at which we operate.
Selected Engagements & Collaborations.
1. Resource Governance & Policy Research.
AfriMali Insight has contributed to policy-facing research and analysis on natural resource governance, with a particular focus on artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM), critical minerals, and extractive sector accountability.
This includes authorship and research contributions to international policy and advocacy organizations such as MiningWatch Canada, where our work has informed broader continental and global discussions on mining, governance, and development outcomes.
Our research engagements are characterized by:
- Applied policy analysis
- Grounded understanding of ASM contexts
2. Strategic Policy Dialogue & Thought Leadership.
AfriMali Insight engages in high-level policy dialogue and knowledge exchange with research institutions and policy platforms focused on industrial policy, critical minerals, and development economics.
This includes participation in forums and engagements with institutions such as Trade & Industrial Policy Strategies, where AfriMali Insight contributes insight on mineral governance, value chains, and Africa’s positioning within global resource transitions.
3. Academic & Institutional Research Collaboration.
AfriMali Insight collaborates with academic and research institutions on applied research related to development policy and resource governance.
Our work has intersected with research linked to Geneva Graduate Institute, particularly around National Action Plans and governance mechanisms in ASM contexts.
These collaborations reinforce our approach: research that is policy-relevant, execution-aware, and grounded in lived conditions.
4. Digital Rights, Data, and Governance Forum.
Beyond extractives, AfriMali Insight engages in cross-cutting governance conversations where natural resources, digital systems, and public accountability intersect.
We have partnered with organizations such as Tech & Media Convergency on forums and dialogues addressing data governance, digital rights, and institutional accountability in Tanzania and the region.
5. Institutional Partnerships & Delivery Platforms.
AfriMali Insight works with institutional platforms focused on mining governance, stakeholder engagement, and sector coordination.
This includes collaboration with TWiMMI, where our work has supported dialogue, research, and strategic engagement in Tanzania’s mining sector.
These partnerships reflect our ability to operate across:
- Policy environments
- Institutional platforms
- Community-linked delivery contexts
Nature of Our Engagement.
Across our work, AfriMali Insight is typically engaged to:
- Support the execution of governance and development frameworks
- Produce research that informs policy and institutional decision-making
- Bridge the gap between national policy, institutional intent, and local realities
- Operate as a trusted partner in complex, politically and socially sensitive contexts
We do not position ourselves as implementers of last resort. We engage where seriousness of intent and responsibility for outcomes are shared.
A Note on Confidentiality.
Many of our engagements operate in sensitive environments involving policy, communities, and institutional decision-making. As such, not all work can be publicly detailed.
This discretion is intentional — and part of the trust placed in us by partners.
